The Last Drive-In Part 6: Daughters of Darkness (1972) - Review 08-15-18

Dear Lord, this was a hard sit.  I'm not a fan of 70s erotic vampire movies.  This one is by far one of the most laborious one I have ever sit through.  It involves a newlywed couple, the man from England and the woman from Switzerland, are stuck in Ostend, Belgium, and are targeted by a centuries-old countess.  We are informed she is Elisabeth Bathory (pronounced BAT-TORY here), aka Countess Blood, the infamous Hungarian noblewoman that was accused of killing virgin women and bathing in their blood for it's youthful quality..  Most of this movie involves softcore sex scenes, talking, more softcore sex and lots of darkness or nothing happening at all.  This has to be one of the most boring subgenres of horror known to man.  It's even worse that ghost horror.

Fortunately, JBB seems to have a lot of information about this film, much of which involving the host segments for Rabid.  The wife (played by Danelle Ouimet) was famous for being a "maple syrup" porn star, a slang name for Canadian smut actresses.  She had starred in breakout erotic movies made by film company Cinepix, who produced.
The titles of one of Ouimet's maple syrup movies are seen on a theatre marquee in a scene with Marilyn Chambers walking about.  This becomes quite ironic, given that Marilyn Chambers was a porn star herself.  Lastly JBB tells a messed up story about Ouimet getting punched out by the director during a hissy fit. In turn, the director was himself punched out by Ouimet's co-star.

A great throwback to the old MonsterVision, JBB breaks out the easel and starts discussing the locale of the movie on the map.  He also included fascinating
stories about Delphine Seyrig, who stars as Bathory.

Three Stars
