The Last Drive-In Part 7: Blood Feast (1963) - Review

So after sitting through the tedium of the previous two movies, we finally get one of my personal favorites on part 7 of LDI.  Blood Feast is considered by most horror experts to be the first gore film and no one beyond the talent of the great Herschel Gordon Lewis could pull it off.  Sadly, Lewis died back in 2016.  JBB was friends with HG Lewis and laments on his passing out the gate by stating, "Herschel, wherever you are, this one's for you."

For anyone who has been watching recent interviews with JBB, he has been mentioning the NY Times obituary about HG Lewis.  And he's been livid about the write-up, because of the NY Times' disingenious nature.  I'm not a fan those guys anyway because I think they're a bunch of pretentious douche-bags, but that's just my personal opinion.  So I digress.

For anyone who actually doesn't know the plot, an Egyptian caterer named F
uad Rameses (Mal Arnold)  is running around killing women and mutilating their bodies to preform some Pharoah-related sacrifice and cannibal dinner. Along the way, he crosses paths with some bumbling detectives and a smoking hot blonde coed (Playboy centerfold Connie Mason). Ultimately in the end, the lunatic is brought down by said idiot cops.  The movie is accompanied by non-stop kettledrum music.  Normally, this would be annoying, but the hokeyness is absolutely amusing.

Definitely of the best episodes of the marathon.

Four Stars.
