The Last Drive-In Part 9: Re-Animator (1985) - Review

Inching his way towards movie 13, JBB gives a glorious presentation of Stuart Gordon's masterpiece, Re-Animator.  Not many movies feature a villain who carries around his own disembodied head.  Jeffrey Combs stars in what became his signature role as Dr. Herbert West, a crazed med student who can't resist the urge to inject dead things with luminescent formaldehyde. Co-starring Bruce Abbot as Dean Cain, the lovely Barbara Crampton as Meg, and the late David Gale as the decapitated nemesis Dr. Hill, this movies has jiggling body parts everywhere.  In addition, the walls are painted red.

For me, JBB doesn't add anything new to the commentary, but he does have a ton of information about this movie.  In addition, he's overly enthusiastic about promoting the film.  The most interesting story that comes to mind is about Jeffrey Combs' extended family showing up with him at a convention in Arkansas.  Above all, JBB praises the acting brilliance of David Gale as Dr. Hill, who truly does pull off a wonderful performance.

Four Stars.
