The Last Drive-In Part 3: Rabid (1983) - Review 07-31-18 (SPOILERS)

The late Marilyn Chambers plays a woman who receives skin grafts as a result of a bad motorcycle wreck and ends up developing a bloodsucking penis that lives in a chocolate starfish under her left arm, as we venture into this review of the Last Drive-In With JBB Part 3.  Instead of the usual rant, JBB does somewhat of a heartfelt eulogy for the Chambers and her former business associated, Artie Mitchell.  As some of you may know, Chambers starred in a little adult film called Behind The Green Door, which was made by Artie Mitchell and his brother Jim.   All three people were known personally by JBB, as he regales stories about their careers.  Chambers, who died in 2009, used her years working for the Mitchell brothers to carve out a cult following in softcore porn on Cinemax, which lasted until her passing.  Also, as some of you know, Artie was later killed by his brother Jim in a strange, real life adaptation of the Romulus and Remus myth.  Both brothers were portrayed by real life brothers Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez in the movie Rated X.

Beyond that, there really isn't much else to say about this part of the marathon.  JBB does his thing in true form and continues with the steady flow of information. Rabid was the second feature film of acclaimed director David Cronenberg.  Chambers was attempting to crossover into legitimate acting, which as we see in this film, she definitely had the chops.  Because Cronenberg did not have the budget for a large name actress, he went with Chambers after she nailed the audition . . . so to speak.  It remains to be seen if Cronenberg thought Chambers was the best choice to have an armpit anus.

Four Stars.
